Top 5 by Max Hoven and Aaron Crow

ALIEN (1979)
Max Hoven and Aaron Crow: The greatest horror film of all time. Incredible pacing, building suspense in an isolated yet futuristic environment, and never letting you go. Then of course there’s Ripley, inarguably one of the greatest female action heroes on screen. Add in Giger’s Xenomorph and you’re left with a near-perfect experience. It’s hard not to draw inspiration from such a classic.
RESIDENT EVIL (1996)
Max Hoven and Aaron Crow: The original PlayStation games are amazing, especially the way they mutate the zombies into grotesque monsters. But the Paul W.S. Anderson films have a special place in our hearts, a guilty pleasure for sure. A great mix of action, horror, and over-the-top madness. Plus, we have multiple women to cheer on throughout the franchise. There’s nothing like a crew of badass women.
GHOST IN THE SHELL (1995)
Max Hoven and Aaron Crow: It’s one of the best anime films. And the manga, while being different in tone, is also fantastic. The world is so vivid and interesting, you want to live there. Major Kusanagi wins you over instantly, and her outfit is incredibly memorable. Same goes for all her fights. The tone and style of Ghost in the Shell was a major influence on Liquid Kill.
INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984)
Max Hoven and Aaron Crow: We may get heat for this one…but this is the best Indiana Jones film. It’s the gold standard for action-adventure. It’s scary and intense, yet still fun and full of heart. The vivid brutality of a truly evil villain is rarely seen at the level Temple of Doom brings to a (mostly) all-ages story. We draw a lot from the darkness of this film — particularly the ancient magic, ritual horror, and child slavery.
THE RAID (2011)
Max Hoven and Aaron Crow: An action ride like no other. The real-time pacing, putting you right in the middle of the action, is something we’ve studied and put directly into our writing. The physical level-by-level, room-to-room movement is rarely seen at such a non-stop rate throughout the entire length of a story. We love this, and our pacing follows the same approach as you follow our heroes layer-by-layer into the catacombs of mayhem.
About Liquid Kill (DEC221745): LIQUID KILL follows sadist-slaughtering vigilantes as they encounter pure evil in a blood-soaked cyberpunk future (à la GHOST IN THE SHELL meets JOHN WICK) written by the creators of the critically-acclaimed series IT EATS WHAT FEEDS IT and artist Gabriel Iumazark (Boom! Studios). For the staff and clientele of a mysterious island hotel, it’s just another night of luxury and vice until members of Liquid Kill (a notoriously violent, all-female militia), lay siege. Demanding compliance or death as they gather intelligence, the adrenaline quickly floods the halls as the team eliminates all threats with ease in their search for their kidnapped leader. That is until something is unleashed… something hungry. If there’s anyone prepared for the evils on the island, it’s these fearless killers, but when the undaunted begin to falter, their foe must be truly monstrous.
